Office of the Dean (Infrastructure Planning and Support)

The office of Dean of Infrastructure Planning and Support (Dean - IPS) at IIT Bombay is entrusted with the comprehensive responsibility of developing new civil infrastructure and maintaining existing facilities within the campus. This encompasses all campus infrastructure including buildings in the academic area, residential hostels for students, staff accommodations. The office is also responsible for the development of general facilities such as roads, gardens, playgrounds, and associated utilities such as water and electricity supply.

The Dean IPS oversees estate-related matters, including the allocation of accommodation for staff and faculty, outsourcing of labour and conservancy services, space allocation, and recreational areas within the campus. Specifically, the following key units of the institute report to the Dean IPS:

  • Estate Office: Responsible for civil infrastructure maintenance.
  • Electrical Maintenance Division: Manages power supply and electrical and mechanical maintenance
  • Design Cell: Handles interior renovation, decoration, and design works.
  • Public Health Office: Addresses health-related requirements.
  • Fire and Safety Section: Ensures fire and safety compliance.
  • Horticulture: Handles the campus greenery

The Dean (IPS) office provides strategic inputs to the Dean IPS Office to facilitate systematic growth of civil infrastructure while minimizing environmental impact and preserving campus flora and fauna. For the creation of new civil infrastructure, the Dean IPS is supported by the Chief Advisor (Civil Infrastructure) and several Officers on Special Duty. Additionally, three Associate Deans assist the Dean IPS in sharing responsibilities and ensuring the smooth functioning of the office.

This structured approach ensures that IIT Bombay's infrastructure development and maintenance are carried out efficiently, sustainably, and in alignment with the institute's long-term vision.
